New honours for achievers

Pretoria - Cabinet has approved a new set of orders to reward individuals for various achievements, in addition to the three designed last year, a spokesperson said on Thursday.
The orders would be awarded for the first time by the end of the year, Joel Netshitenzhe said.
The Order of Albert Luthuli would be awarded to individuals who had rendered distinguished service for democracy and human rights.
The other two orders were for bravery and for creative talent - -excellence in the fields of arts, culture, literature, music, journalism and sport.
The Presidency would announce the formal names of the orders, their design and details of the nomination process soon, Netshitenzhe said.
The Orders of Mapungubwe, the Boabab and the Companion of OR Tambo were awarded for the first time last year.
The order of Mapungubwe is intended for South African citizens for excellence and exceptional achievement on the international stage.
The order of the Boabab is for South African citizens for distinguished service in a number of fields. Foreigners, like heads of state and other dignitaries, qualify for the Order of the Companion of OR Tambo.
