Johannesburg - The National Directorate of Public Prosecutions would oppose an expected application by deputy president Jacob Zuma on Wednesday to obtain a copy of a letter allegedly indicating that Zuma sought to elicit an arms deal bribe, Scorpions spokesperson Sipho Ngwema said on Tuesday.
Speaking on 702 Eyewitness News, Ngwema said there was "no basis" for such an application.
The station reported that Zuma would lodge an urgent application in the Pretoria High Court to obtain a copy of an alleged damning letter indicating that he sought to obtain a R500 000 bribe from a company involved in South Africa's controversial R53bn arms deal.
A spokesperson for Zuma's office said she could not comment.
Zuma is currently in Havana for the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
