Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police have thus far been unable to establish whether the murders of an IFP and an ANC supporter in Durban on Saturday are linked.
"So far we could not link the two cases. In the railway station incident, there were no witnesses," said spokesperson Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu on Monday. No arrests had been made in either of the murders.
Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) member Bhekisisa Mthethwa was shot in the head and chest outside Montclair railway station in Durban at 04.30 on Saturday. He was on his way to work.
Also on Saturday Wonderboy Phelakho was shot dead as African National Congress supporters left an election launch rally.
The shooting took place about 500 metres from King Zwelithini stadium in Umlazi, next to a bus that had transported ANC supporters from Pietermaritzburg. Phelakho was shot in the head.
The stadium had been packed with about 10 000 ANC supporters as well as the top provincial ANC leadership for the 2009 election launch.
