Nelspruit - Mpumalanga local government and housing MEC Candith Mashego-Dlamini is due to announce on Wednesday the name of the curator who will take over the reigns of the embattled Mbombela local municipality.
Department spokesperson Simphiwe Kunene said on Tuesday the announcement would be made at special council meeting in Nelspruit.
"The MEC has been searching for a suitable person since a decision by the provincial executive council to place the council under a caretaker administrator to help it get back on a sound footing," said Kunene.
The Mbombela municipal council has been fumbling preparations for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
The stadium is being built on land that was irregularly bought from a land claims community for just R1, while the awarding for the tender for the construction of the stadium has also been in question.
The council has also failed to fill crucial posts for senior managers since last year, is lagging behind in spending its municipal infrastructure grants (MIG) and has been unable to effectively manage its debt collection.
