Johannesburg - A 23-year-old man has been arrested for cutting off the power to traffic lights in Florida and Roodepoort, police said on Sunday.
Police responding to a tip-off caught him in the act on Saturday afternoon, said spokesperson Sergeant Katlego Mogale.
He claimed to be in the pay of tow-truck companies, she said.
Mogale said the man identified his accomplices, aged between nine and 13-years, and gave the police information about the tow-truck companies for which he worked.
He would appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, charged with malicious damage to property and attempted murder.
"When he cut off the power he might cause accidents. We don't know how long he has being doing this and how many accidents he might have caused," said Mogale.
The Florida police were continuing their investigation and expected to make more arrests, she said.
