'Child welfare needs overhaul'

Johannesburg - It was imperative that South Africa's child welfare system be restructured, said the SA National Council for Child Welfare on Friday.
"We got the message from our 175 affiliates that we must look at our structure in terms of transformation and in adapting to the times," said council national director André Kallis.
He said the organisation had to take a critical look at itself and come up with a possible model for change.
The council was receiving help from DeLoitte Consulting with the logistics and planning.
"They sat with us and worked through all the structures. We now have a massive implementation document to help us achieve our goals," said Kallis.
