ANC 'owes Mbeki an apology'

2009-01-13 14:36

Dear Editor,

Yesterday, the Supreme Court reiterated the question on most peoples' minds: "Why did Nicholson bring political meddling into his ruling?"

I am glad the court said that Nicholson went beyond the call of duty, ruling on subjects that were never in question in court.

Well, now that the ANC is aware that they acted rashly and foolishly, I believe they owe president Mbeki an apology. Like him or not, what his own party did to him was inexcusable and just plain rude.

I am not an ANC supporter and do not have much of an opinion on Mbeki, but what I do know is that the ANC doesn't deserve him as a member.

Judge Nicholson never said that there was definite political meddling; he just mentioned that the he can't rule out that possibility. And this phrase led to the dismissal of the head of state.

The ANC will now do as they usually do, mitigating their actions and changing their reasons for sacking Mbeki, never admitting they have done anything wrong. I would, for once, to see this party admit they failed and apologise.

But as always, they were never wrong!

Just Me

If they did that to their leader what would they or wouldn't they do to their followers?

Nomveliso 1/13/2009 2:46:53 PM
I concur....I am just waiting to see what Malemania is going to come out, hopefully not. JZ said on Asikhulume that now they are decent leaders.....

Zaid 1/13/2009 2:51:32 PM
Now before you lynch me listen up. If the ANC did not recall Mbeki, Cope would not exist. If Cope did not exist, the ruling party would continue on their merry way tramping over everything and everyone. Since the recall the ANC is leaning more to the left and will have to make good on at least some of the drivel they spew to make sure they keep Cope at bay. Mbeki's sacrifice is SA's gain.

Tomas 1/13/2009 2:52:45 PM
he was recalled. WHAT ABOUT ALL THE AIDS DEATHS ON HIS DOOR. WILL HE APOLOGISE? I DONT THINK SO! ANYWAY, HOW DO ANC GO ABOUT IT WITHOUT MENTIONING HIS GLORIOUS NAME (NOT IN MY NAME, REMEMBER! STUPIDS)

jackey 1/13/2009 2:54:22 PM
The recall of Thabo mbeki was to settle an old score between him and Jacob Zuma so I do not see any apology coming from them..they just to bitter that Mbeki was a firm leader and under his leadership the ANC wasnt 'hi-jacked' by the SACP, The YL and Cosatu.JZ was elected coz he is a 'yes man' and thats why the ANC is in the state it is right now.Mbeki always outsmarted JZ and I guess he has the last laugh now..Mbeki 1 Zuma 0..and so it continues.....

ttt 1/13/2009 2:54:34 PM
The ANC never gave the marizburg judgement as a reason to axe your beloved mbeki. Please tell me where you got that?

Mr T 1/13/2009 2:55:01 PM
I would really like to see that once great party admit that they made a huge mistake.....Mabe if they see that admittance aint so bad they might admit they did not get around to all the claimed promises they made too ?? Not party enough for that !!

Jbird 1/13/2009 2:56:05 PM
You forget that the country is run by the NEC not the President? If they dont like you then you are out.

Pop Idol 1/13/2009 2:56:20 PM
Why does the ANC need to apologise to Mbeki??? This was democracy at play...The ANC owes an apology to South Africans regardless of the colour of our skins, for failing us so badly ! With 66% of the vote they could have passed many good laws to make our lives easier and the economy stronger but they failed failed failed !!

Juan 1/13/2009 2:56:23 PM
He's caused so much death and suffering by his PATHETIC inaction on crime, rape murder and hiv here. He also his reign of terror abroad by effectively protecting a mass-murderer (Mugabe) Mbeki has caused irreversible harm to this once beautiful country. HE is the one the should apologise. Forget about some flimsy court technicality!

Love Africa 1/13/2009 2:56:30 PM
The Finding's didn't say that political meddling had occurred in Zuma's case it stated that the political apparent Meddling has nothing to do with the charging of Zuma. So he still might have tried to influence the courts but that doesn't make Zuma innocent. I say NPA must either get Zuma in court and sort this out or drop it all together it?s not good for the country. I personally believe that because of Sheik?s verdict, Zuma must be guilty in some capacity.

Juan 1/13/2009 2:56:37 PM

Careful 1/13/2009 2:56:38 PM
i dont think the ANC will do that, as that will show the voters how idiotic the new guard is. The only thing that the ANC needs to do going forward is to recall JZ hence he is denting the image of the organisation, the NEC needs to have an urgent meeting whereby they endorse Kgalema is their face for the elections, JZ has many woes to led the org and republic. as for TM he must be smilling, can we sober South African mobilise against JZ being president of the republic

sihle-py 1/13/2009 2:57:36 PM
well if you must know and have followed the issue around former president mbeki who is still a member of the anc, he was deployed by the anc to the highest seat in the country and according to the anc can be recalled if the party deems it necessary. now the point is his recalling was not only based on the ruling but other issues which the comrade failed to observe. sorrrrrrrrrrrrry just me and T.mbeki you happy now

James 1/13/2009 2:58:49 PM
The ANC have finally dropped their respected roots and become the first moronic African dictatorial party post freedom. They are now perfectly placed to take something that works and break it through corruption and an inherent inability to do the job properly. God save SA.

Point Blank 1/13/2009 3:01:22 PM
You have it wrong, the ANC can do what ever they want to as there is no opposition... they don't care if they make the wrong choices, who's going to stop them either way?

AC 1/13/2009 3:01:34 PM
The justice system is slow, and JZ will therefore be sworn in as the next president, because neither he nor the ANC has any decency or pride. The laws, constitution, justice system and police will be repeatedly changed until the charges are no longer applicable, instead of solving real issues. The country will again be disappointed. The only hope is a shift in the voting to prevent this, but then the Zimbaweanism will occur. The results are delayed until the right result has been engineered

Idnas 1/13/2009 3:01:45 PM
I couldnt agree more, situations and circumstances are & do happen for a reason, be it good or bad. Only time will tell, and i doubt the ANC will apologise to TM, they mos never do anything wrong;-)

Rendani 1/13/2009 3:04:07 PM
Bear in mind that I am no political fan at all but it is very clear that certain individuals have already concluded that Bheki was hard done by the ANC due to yesterday's judgement which refered back to Nicholson's judgement. I urge such people to also take into consideration that yesterday's judgement can still be overulr by the ConCourt.

Mzilankatha 1/13/2009 3:04:11 PM
Your reasoning does deserve a lynching, but it does make sense; in a warped kind of way...

Sonny 1/13/2009 3:05:03 PM
I would be astounded if they do! Will find some other drivel to throw at him. JZ and decent leaders? What a joke. Remember Duarte herself being dishonest some years ago. Yengeni? Winnie? What a joke.

Justin 1/13/2009 3:08:55 PM
When Judge Nicholson ruled in favour of JZ, they (ANC) were praising the fact that they were respecting the independance of the judiciary. Now that this has happened, they are more likely to say that they believe that the judiciary is "counter-revolutionary".

Mr. B 1/13/2009 3:09:59 PM
Highly unlikely that there will be any public apology, but Zaid is onto something in terms of his sacking really shaking up the country club, and hopefully leading to some positive change long term in our great nation

Cape Town Kid 1/13/2009 3:10:12 PM
If u r left to begin with, how can u be accused of being left.Cope's formation is a result of prepolokwane?U r in the realm of speculation re Thabo's recall! Get your facts and stop the rumour-mongering..he he heh

Duzi 1/13/2009 3:10:47 PM
Dude... very, very good point! Whether anything good comes out of Cope or not, the mere fact that they exist will bring in more competition and as you say force whoever is in power to live up to 'some' of their promises. My only hope now is for political education so that people know what they are voting for and are not just won over by a loaf of bread at a rally that they have been bussed into...

Justin 1/13/2009 3:11:32 PM

nthatuwa 1/13/2009 3:12:11 PM
I dont think they will.Mbeki should just leave it.Besides, the judges didnt quite clear Mbeki's name on this one.So let's not expect much from the ANC.The only thing we should wish they do is DISAPPEAR,REALLY.I'm starting to think there's some special force using them to destroy this country.

Big Bad Bob 1/13/2009 3:12:11 PM
Though it is growing increasingly clear that Mbeki didn't do a good job as President. He lost the plot - got too caught up in complex theories and didn't RUN the country. Since he's been gone we've had a new minister of health, more urgency regarding ARVs, and cabinet calling for Selebi to replaced. These are good things, and they are things that Mbeki could have done but did not.

John Camp 1/13/2009 3:12:43 PM
Although it has backfired on the ANC, and let me tell you... THEY ARE VERY AWARE, i do believe it was good for him to have been recalled. The recalling of TM has effectively cost the ANC two thirds majority.

Blaza 1/13/2009 3:13:14 PM
The ANC is a much better party minus Mbeki, the guy was intelligent but he had favouritism, he divided the party and the country, Judge Nicholson's judgement was ONE of the reasons why Mbeki was sacked, it was not the only reason, the ANC have said this time and again.take your Mbeki and go surf the net and smoke cigar.

nthatuwa 1/13/2009 3:14:08 PM
INDEED MY FRIEND!!!

CK 1/13/2009 3:14:47 PM
I agree - every dark cloud has it's silver lining. Thank goodness for COPE - hope they kick ANC ass

Jonas 1/13/2009 3:18:06 PM
To apologise, the ANC would have to admit that they were wrong, and that is not going to happen. Accountability is not one of their strong points!

The Devil 1/13/2009 3:20:06 PM
Zaid : interesting point about cope. I'm one of those who left to work in another country for a few years, but I still follow S.A. news the COPE development is interesting. I think they may add to "robust opposition" that the D.A. is always using to flatter their supporters fend of detractors. Thabo Mbeki, at the risk of putting my foot in my mouth, has a dignified bearing that reminds me of Mandela. Despite the aids heresy debacle and everything else, I don't think he ever "lost control".

Jonny 1/13/2009 3:20:16 PM
I can see a lot of people voting for other parties this time round. People who is not prepared to associate themselves with the ANC leadership. SA will be exposed to the biggest sporting event in 2010 and who will be on the podium representing the host country? Jacob Zuma, a person with questionable friends (yes Shabir, you)and a "corruption sword" hanging over his head. I wonder if he will be singing "bring my machine gun" from the podium. South-Africa can do better than this...

gram 1/13/2009 3:25:50 PM
Mbeki must first apologise to Winnie Mandela and the woman in general for slapping her live on Television.Apologise to the nation for the deaths caused by AIDS,Pikoli,Nozizwe madlala etc. He even renewed Jackie Selebis contract!

Annie 1/13/2009 3:29:18 PM
I agree the ANC must put Mr Kgalema forward as s candidate. They may just do that to save face, recall him after the elections and put JZ in as President anyway ! I don't trust them at all !

mzi 1/13/2009 3:30:13 PM
if judges can't interfere in political issues then who will. it will be seen as if they overlooked the reality of political interference. If they conclude based on the facts given to them, surely the conflicts will arise because of political differences, we saw that between Mbeki and Zuma. Even if mbeki interfered,Zuma's charges are undoubtedly a case. I don't trust the judicial system anymore, including the Concourt. They all do political favours anyway. oh and mpshe will be next....... watch it

Filemon 1/13/2009 3:30:23 PM
for embarrassing us with their kindergaten in-fighting and proposed corrupt president. Because of this fiasco, we will already pay 76c a litre more for petrol next month because the ANCircus has caused the Rand to fall. Can we sue them? Or claim this back from our taxes?

Pal 1/13/2009 3:30:33 PM
They most definitely will not concede that Mbeki was sacrificed based on Judge Nicholson's ruling only. I saw Matthews Phosa on SABC News yesterday saying Mbeki's ruling was not based on the ruling only...but there were other factors. What are those factors? Tell us! How I wish, Mbeki could write a letter to the ANC and tell them how he feels...and then join Cope!

Alex 1/13/2009 3:32:48 PM
The ANC and Thabo Mbeki owe South Africa an apology for all the damage they've done to our beautiful country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

clifton 1/13/2009 3:33:07 PM
I think Thabo Mbeki should be charged in the International Criminal Court for genocide against +/- 300 000 HIV victims that died whilst he was in charge. That was a good enough reason to get rid of him .......

tsidiso 1/13/2009 3:33:08 PM
i have read with keen interest the judgement of two crises, one chris ngcobo of constitutional coort and chris nicholson of durban, the only conclusion is that they are carrerist who are looking for most senior legal positions in the country, their judgements were not in the interst of justice, and to them favouring jacob zuma, will be rewarded one day!!!!!!!

Tony 1/13/2009 3:34:15 PM
That goes for both sides, Mbeki must also apologise to the Zimbabwean people for all the kak he helped MOEGOEAPE cause and is still helping. Just like the Israelis are doing, we should wipe out the crap in Africa so that we can also develop like civilized countries.ALL MAMPARRAS MUST APOLOGISE NOW AND TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION!!!

VG 1/13/2009 3:35:53 PM
Why does the ANC owe him an apology? I;m sos confused - when Mbeki was Pres all people did was castigate him for his many bungles: HIV, Selebi, crime etc etc -but when the ANC finally removes him, your tune changes to " ag shame" and "..what his party did to him was rude" wtf??? about bloody time I thought. Thats what happens to people who forget that they serve at the will of those who vote you in - He wasn't appointed by God.

ElectroMan 1/13/2009 3:38:43 PM
I am a supporter of former Pres. Mbeki, but do not believe it's wise to turn the table as the tide changes it's flow. Let the law take it's course and make up your mind after the final ruling in this matter. I see a long, long road ahead for this...

skew 1/13/2009 3:39:30 PM
The split in the ANC has created COPE, which will deny the ANC 2/3 majority and in theory they (COPE) stand a chance of being the 'official opposition' party. Cope is made-up of ex-ANC members - does this not give more reason to worry as if this comes about the DA will have even less clout.

Mandla 1/13/2009 3:43:37 PM
ANC owes Mbeki no apology. Mandela handed Mbeki a united ANC and Mbeki devided the ANC and even the country. The recalling was long overdue. Its obvious that you dont even understand the politics of the ANC, so do us a favour and stop commenting on ANC issues that you have no understanding. What if another judge overturn this decision? Its not over till the fat lady sing not just approaching the stage. The battle has been going on for 7years and it continues. Zuma will win it.

Joeman 1/13/2009 3:45:02 PM
You are just an Idiot suffering from Zuma / ANC hatred. it's obvious that Mbeki and his cronies did whatever they could to prevent Zuma from ascending to the throne and afford himself with a third term.

Smanga Zulu 1/13/2009 3:48:09 PM
Judge Nicholson owes Mbeki an apology, not the ANC...

calvin 1/13/2009 3:48:55 PM
Well put brother, ANC has already changed their statement of recalling Thabo Mbeki. Now they are saying it was nothing to do with Nicholson judgement. What a cruel people.

sabe 1/13/2009 3:50:33 PM
ANC should do that if they new whats right for them, as for Angie, Gwede, Carl these three ppl are denting the ANC on a daily basis, but thats good for COPE

Percentage 1/13/2009 3:57:11 PM
Mbeki is purely a victim of ANC hooligans.

Rendani 1/13/2009 3:58:46 PM
Since 1994, The ANC came with some brilliant strategies to make our country look better however, they fail to consistetly monitor the progress. whether Zuma or Mbeki, there will always be dissatisfactions period!!!!

Abza 1/13/2009 3:59:28 PM
If the ANC did not use nicholson judgement to recall mbeki, then why did they recall him the weekend after the judgement, these brainwashed ANC followers thinks we are stupied, when the NPA decided to recharge Zuma you said the reason for that was bcos mbeki lost. If nicholson was not the reason the plz, plz explain why, bcos madonna Im in da dark.

T-MAN 1/13/2009 4:02:23 PM
I honestly think news24 should put in measures to deal with how e-mails like yours. I don't think if one calls your father pathetic, you would like it. For your info Mbeki has done well as a President. The Issue of HIV/AIDS, it's time that we accept that our gov can't force us to have protected sex bt rather do it 4 ourselves. Blaming Mbeki is totally insane. If i have unprotected sex i shud b aware of the consequences, y shud i now cry and say the gov is doing nothing. Be responsible.

Senior ANC member 1/13/2009 4:07:06 PM
As a deployed cadre in the Luthuli house and the mandate given by my fellow comrades, we will like to send this apology through media24 to say to Comrade Mbeki that we are sincerely sorry for that harsh and unspeakable decision we took after our own counter-revolutionary Judge Nicholson fooled us again to gain free access to our tendering system. Mr Mbeki, we will make sure that we give you another high office in SADC headquarters. Sorry for also calling you a dead snake, it was showerhead's idea

donald mogotsi 1/13/2009 4:10:45 PM
as you correctly say just me, you do not have much of an opinion, just stay out of it. express your cheap opinions to your children. the ANC did well by firing the man who was mismanaging the country

Ha Ha 1/13/2009 4:11:20 PM
Between his wedding plans and all the time he is going to have to spend in court JZ is gonna have no time to ummm.... try and run the country!Any other politician would have stepped down long ago.

Juan 1/13/2009 4:12:22 PM
Mbeki DROPPED the ball on HIV by not having ARV's distributed to hiv pregnant mothers. The UN estimates that about 300 000 died as a DIRECT result of this AVOIDABLE transmission. FACT! ..and do i REALLY have to convince you that mbeki did nothing about crime??! As far as hiv and crime goes, SA is the WORST in the world! FACT! Please argue the FACTS before commenting!

Juan 1/13/2009 4:12:45 PM

The ANC owes Mbeki an apology? Mbeki owes all south africans an apology for turning the country, and especially parliament, into a world-class circus with zero credibility, and then Mbeki also owes a HUGE apology for the thousands of Zimbabweans who have died as a DIRECT RESULT of Mbeki's illogical decisions, and Mbeki's inexplicable support for his best friend, Madbob Mugabe. Mbeki: the personification of epic failure.

Zuma 1/13/2009 4:15:35 PM
I am so glad that Judge Nicholson had the courage to go into the issues such as political meddling/conspiracy against JZ. We want to know the full truth, not just the NPA's one-sided accusations against JZ.

keaobaka 1/13/2009 4:15:49 PM
IF INDEED THE REMOVAL OF FORMER PRESIDENT THABO MBEKI WAS NOT BASED ON NICHOLSON JUGDEMENT,WHY DID ANC WAIT SO LONG AFTER POLOKWANE?THATS PURE LIE. KEAOBAKA TAUNG

mlungisi 1/13/2009 4:16:32 PM
Do you know why Mbeki was fired? I don't recall ANC giving reasons. Did they fire him because of that reason only? I mean, for real now, do you know?

Nicholson 1/13/2009 4:17:29 PM
Now does that mean Nicholson will have to be impeached? Just like Hlophe?

jb 1/13/2009 4:17:57 PM
its said the Zim is in its position today because of corruption.....SA need to think before they vote....this is not a race issue anymore, its about survival in the future.

The ANC NEC were well aware that political meddling was not issue that was brought to the high court for decision. But it workeed for them as they just wanted to get rid of TM. Dont even expect apology these fools of ANC NEC will tell you that TM was not dismissed for that the just said he cant rule the posibility of political meddling. For you Juan your are irrelevant and fueled by hatred.

Also bring back the Scorpions you lot of mishaps!

Philani 1/13/2009 4:20:22 PM
Mbeki, did not apologise when Zuma case was strucked off the court, but he pushed for the man to be persecuted enough, that he(TM) fell on his own sword. The ANC, must just suspend his membership and be called to a DC. Ek is gatvol met jou!!!!!bagaat

Stryker 1/13/2009 4:21:23 PM
Need we say more about this pathetic excuse for a government!!!

Contraband 1/13/2009 4:22:09 PM
We will rather have the clown sing Umshin wami than that cheap bafoon with broken teeth. He refused to step down after his term and look at the result. He was so power hungry like his friend Mugabe. Mbeki must apologise to the ANC, AFRICA and the WORLD. Well done to ANC NEC for kicking his ass. Let Mbeki fade into oblivion coz he sucks !

Jorene 1/13/2009 4:22:47 PM
The Aids crisis is not Mr Thabo Mbeki's fault. For those that contacted Aids from Sleeping around, that is what you get. Stop blaming Mbeki's for Aids. I think the ANC owe Mbeki big time. Still waiting to hear what the real reason was for recalling Mbeki, maybe jealousy on Zuma's part??? I wish that Zuma now stops wasting the courts time and comes clean!!!!!

malcolmx 1/13/2009 4:22:56 PM
My feeling is a lot a dirty laundery will come out of the wash once Zuma gets into his final corner & resting ground. He will expose all the other crooks in the ANC once they have failed to protect him. Its the only reason he isn't in jail. Mbeki will surface as one of the biggest crooks. Quite possibly Mandela as well. If you arwe a member of the ANC,you have been living in the breeding ground of first class crooks.

jackey 1/13/2009 4:23:02 PM
True...When will he have time for all his wives, attend court cases, UN meetings,Summits, dance & sing on stage and run the country ???? It s gonna be one busy year for JZ....@ Senior ANC Member LOL !!!!!!!!1

Choene 1/13/2009 4:23:39 PM
To all who blame Mbeki for Aids deaths. Do you really and honestly think all those Aids death should be blamed on Mbeki? Did you expect him to be on everyone's face forcing people to use condoms, abstain from sex, and to be faithful to their partners? People, dont insult our intelligence. The government did and continue what to punt these messages but people continue to be irresponsible...

Amazed 1/13/2009 4:26:17 PM
Are you serious? Whats insane as you put it, is a government denying that HIV causes AIDS or that antiretrovrals can prolong your life. Whats insane is the denialist attitude of TM and others. Whats insane is believing that ordinary Africans can stop AIDS without Government intervention - based on the current HIV infection rate, I`d say government needs to act fast, cuz clearly the People have no clue, morals or common sense - thats insane wouldnt you say?

Uncle UBA 1/13/2009 4:26:49 PM
Why should two people decide to have ''unprotected sex'' then start blaming Mbeki after their orgy as if Mbeki was the refree?.Mbeki , given the new calibre and crop of current African leaders & presidents, may be one of the best SA & Africa will ever have!.In Mugabe's case, people should not blame the axe for cutting down trees, leaving the hand that applied the energy to cut innocent trees !

malcolmx 1/13/2009 4:27:48 PM
Kolobe the ANC BAA-Baa black sheep must be otherwise entertained. No comment on this one.

Tired 1/13/2009 4:29:08 PM
Yes you should be aware of the consequences but given that more Africans are infected every day than any other racial group - clearly we are not. Why? Is it because we are generally more stupid? Have no morals? Are perhaps told AIDS doesnt kill you? You can have sex with a baby and be cured? Come on T Man get real, if gov doesnt try save our stupid asses, who will?

Ryan 1/13/2009 4:40:00 PM
T-man, u need to catch a wake up...Juan is right, Mbeki is an idiot...he denied HIV caused AIDS, did nothing about Zim and we are still dealing with the consequences(HIV, unemployed Zims in SA) Mbeki did nothing about crime, let all the infrastructure built prior 94 to fall apart. So mbeki has lots to answer for!And now yr new president Zuma says have a shower will get rid of AIDS...Scary that these ppl r the best ANC can do....

Rynette 1/13/2009 5:26:43 PM
I think it's laughable! ANC & and ANCYL have it all nicely tied up don't you think. JZ their man 'Yes' man is going to win. And Mbeki who wasn't a great President will just fade away. Nelson Mandela bless the man was a great leader for all rainbow people and yet powerless to do much against the circus his own party has become. We will have to support JZ and his five wives and seventeen children as our President. And with our hard earned money!!!!

Sinudeity@Gmail.com 1/13/2009 5:31:11 PM
The ANC will start changing laws, start firing NPA members, whatever it can do, in the next few weeks, to save Zuma's corrupt ass. But what does all our efforts matter anyways? The ANC dont care what the people of SA think/want. They dont consider us as citizens, but as servants. The millions of poor, uneducated and ignorant, will vote for them, with no regard for their civil liberties.

Rynette 1/13/2009 5:47:24 PM
Let's be real this was a pure set-up by ANC! Not that I thought Mbeki was a great President but at least we could trust him not to be under 'suspicion' of rape, corruption and a 'yes' man.

Rynette 1/13/2009 5:52:21 PM
Well said! Bring back the Scorpions you corruptable idiots.

Vusi 1/13/2009 5:53:24 PM
Blaming TM for HIV/AIDS death is not entirely correct. As someone who lives with d disease, I take full responsibilty for my situation. ARVs r now being rolled out, but new infections r still occuring and people r still dying cos they refuse to test and take them. Mbeki was ill advised on his stance but can't b blamed entirely for this.
