Beijing - Canada defeated South Africa 5-3 in a match-up of winless teams at the Beijing Olympics.
Canada (1-3-1) matched its goal total for the previous four matches, and South Africa (0-5) found offensive success after scoring one goal prior to Tuesday's game.
Australia is showing rare vulnerability in Olympic men's field hockey.
The Aussies are the defending Olympic champions and are ranked No 1 in the world, but they struggled at times in a 3-all tie with Britain on Tuesday. Australia (3-0-2) tied the match with a goal by Eddie Ockenden in the 68th minute.
It was Australia's second straight draw following a 2-all tie with the Netherlands on Sunday, but the team still advanced to the semi-finals. Australia will play Spain, and Germany will play the Netherlands in the semi-finals on Thursday.
