Media pushing 'Malemaphobia'

2008-11-24 14:43

Johannesburg - The African National Congress defended its youth league leader Julius Malema on Monday, saying the media was pushing "Malemaphobia".

Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe said criticism levelled at Malema was discussed at this weekend's National Executive Committee meeting.

Apart from Malema's "kill for Zuma" comments, they could not pin much else down that he could be criticised for.

The ANC was responsible for helping the league when it put its foot wrong, but felt the media was pushing "Malemaphobia".

In response to criticism that its members were disrupting Congress of the People meetings, Mantashe said this flowed both ways. He said the ANC leaders had been subjected to some unacceptable comments at Cope meetings this past weekend.

"It is not a one-way traffic this thing of disruption," he said.

Julias Malema is the ANC's local village idiot. He entertains the public with his idiotic statements. He is the black equivalent Ugene Terrebalnche of the AWB. Somebody give the stupid ass a horse to fall off of. Who can beleive what the ANC says. Six months ago their top brass was saying that there was no split in the ANC and told the press to stop being sensationalistic. If that is true where the hell did COPE come from?

Juice 11/24/2008 3:22:48 PM
at this moment, it is irrelevant what the media or anybody else for that matter says about Julius Malema. The damage is already done and if the ANC continues to have this person as leader of their youth league, they are going to lose more support bcoz I don?t think a lot of young educated people would prefer having such a lose cannon as the face and voice of a party they support. I?m not too much into politics, but I can already see some people in townships are being negatively influenced by this leader. Peter Mokaba was already overboard with his antics, the country does not need a copy-cat, pre school drop out to be given the sort of platform that he is getting.

Bhula 11/24/2008 3:24:47 PM
I think the likes of Malema are only there to further cause chaos and disruptions in the political arena. if one follows what Malema has been saying all along one sees a lot of unwise comments on his part, which brings some questions as to why is it that the ANC just stands aside and watch this man with premitive mannerism to cause a lot of noise about issues that one can hear that he(Malema)has little to say about? All we hear from this guy is insults, threats and a series of unwise comments. WI

Tsotsi 11/24/2008 3:26:28 PM
And they got more than enough reason from the brainless subject under discussion as well. Do not see them taking the likes of a Patricia de Lille or Zille apart!

Mark T 11/24/2008 3:31:47 PM
We have seen him on TV uttering his fiery speeches about chasing opposition etc- the fact that the ANC condones this, shows that they tink they are still a liberation movement and not a political party. There is no revolution- that is past. WHat we have now is democracy, where there is freedom to create parties and compete for votes- without the threats of a militant leader.

Lee 11/24/2008 3:32:42 PM
Come on what does the ANC think ? Malema should be nailed for threatening hate speech which flys in the face of democracy ..something his parents fought for I imagine.. they must be so proud or not.

When will our politicians learn to treat the very people that put them in power with respect? They claim to uphold a constitution with a bill of rights for EVERY SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZEN, yet they propagate hate speach (a la Malema and his "misunderstood" comments). They claim freedom of speech and your right to belong to any party of choice, yet they "allow" their supporters to disrupt the individuals choices. They claim we all have to abide by the law, yet the stealing goes un-punished (travel).

Lucky Ralawe 11/24/2008 3:48:56 PM
The current ANC is merely sticking their heads in the sand. On the one hand Malema has been reigned in (said the Kangaman recently); Malema is an embarassment (said Dr Zola Skweyiya just over a month ago). They are fooling no one. If anything, this proves their complicity in the utterings of their hotheaded Malema.

FJ 11/24/2008 3:51:46 PM
There are 2 distinct groups of supporters - those who believe in promises without the need to deliver on them, and those who believe that a promise made is a promise kept. We all belong to SA and can call on our rights! If our rights are taken away it is a promise broken by our government. We are not safe in our own houses, yet it has been promised. We are promised a stable landscape for prosperity, yet corruption in the government is killing that notion. Stop the hidden agendas!

ahhh poory anc shame poor milema shame is the whole world against u shame poor babies

Paul 11/24/2008 4:17:41 PM
Of course it is the media, it is always the media, isn't it. Comrade Julius never said anything worth reporting, the media must have invented it all. What a circus. Does the ANC really believe people still fall for these excuses? Or are they so cocooned in their own utopia that they have totally lost touch with reality?

Mark R. 11/24/2008 4:24:35 PM
It's one thing that Cope meetings make "unacceptable comments" about ANC leadership. It's a TOTALLY different thing for ANC members to walk into a Cope meeting, shout at delegates and throw chairs at them!!! As far as Malema is concerned: no further comment from me - he's ruined his own image.

Stefansm 11/24/2008 4:31:17 PM
It seem the ANC is encouraging its members to continue with their disruption of COPE 's meetings. Besides the comments made by some COPE leaders is there any incident where COPE supporters ever disrupted an ANC meeting?, Theanswer is clear no. What explanation can the ANC give for these disruptions?

Filemon 11/24/2008 5:00:07 PM
thinks that Malenema only made "kill for zoooma" statements that could be criticised but forgets about the dogs, snakes, cockroaches, urinating statements. Shows how insincere the ANCircus are. And his forked-tongue statements about disruptions of meetings. Cope's meeting were disrupted by the anc hooligans and the anc's only disrupted meeting was done by their OWN members fighting (again) amongst themselves

PUMZILE 11/24/2008 5:06:31 PM
Cope youth leader called Mr Zuma a rapist and yet know one has said anything about it , let alone condemning it.When poor Malema says something all the papers are quick to react.May the press is making a lot of money and selling a lot of copies when Malema says something. WAKE UP SOUTH AFRICA, WAKE UP PEOPLE ARE NOT FOOLS.

Anon 11/24/2008 5:30:11 PM
It's such a pity that the ANC have missed the point in this matter. It's not about the NUMBER of things Malema could be criticized for, but rather the SEVERITY of that specific statement that should be weighed. ANC cover ups and "out of context" excuses are clearly no longer being tolerated - do they think we're all stupid?

neo 11/24/2008 5:48:55 PM
I want to congratulate the ANC NEC for failing to show that they can stand against misconduct even if it is committed by one of their own. Their failure to speak out against Malema simply displays the lack of integrity that characterises the current leadership. Please keep on doing that, it can only serve to make more people aware of your hyprocrisy. But again I hate what it does to the youth of our country, who might think that the rubbish that Malema spews is right.

KEAOBAKA 11/24/2008 9:13:50 PM
MANTASHE IS DEFENDING HIS SON[MALEMA],DID MEDIA TELL MALEMA TO DISRESPECT ELDERS?NO,AND WORDS LIKE 'WE WILL TAKE ARMS AN KILL FOR ZUMA,CALLING SECURITY GUARD.KEAOBAKA TAUNG

SA Citezen 11/24/2008 10:26:15 PM
You know I had hope that after the so-called NEC Meeting ANC leaders will mature and get a chance to give each other feedback..but it looks like it was just a waist of STATES MONEY. I can't believe that ..that Gwede Mantashe is able to make such a sick comment and say the disruprtion is a two-way stream. The ANC people have disturbed COPE meeting for over 15 times now and you come and screem like a spoilt brat...Impela kulele kubili okuba bekukubili ngabe niyavusana lapho. Kodwa ubuthongo bodwa.

Citezin 11/24/2008 10:32:38 PM
This is shocking that after such a big meeting ANC called, they can come back and say Malema is not saying anything wrong other than "Kill for Zuma". Its high time then ANC you face the truth, you contine support Malema and cover for him like this, you're killing the nation. Remember it not only you irresponsible citizens in South Africa, we have kids who are learning and cannot learn a thing from Malema. COPE is right about you guys and Moralily, you are then worse with Democratic practices.

Dirk 11/24/2008 10:44:27 PM
Malemaphobia? This little rebel without a cause will be gone and forgotten in 2-3 years time. He is well qualified to become an African leader (with an F for geography and all), but he must first learn the simple task of filtering the thoughts in his head before speaking. Something most people learn before the age of 18. I think most people find him funny and I myself tend to read any news story relating to him when looking for some light relief.
