Johannesburg - Six youths were arrested after protests in Khutsong against a Constitutional Court ruling refusing to reincorporate their municipality into Gauteng, police said on Tuesday.
Superintendent Louis Jacobs said the six people, all under the age of 18, were arrested on Monday afternoon on charges of inciting public violence.
"They wanted to march but police stopped the march. After that, there were sporadic incidents where they barricaded roads with rubble, set tyres alight and threw stones at the police.
"The six youths will appear in court today [Tuesday]," said Jacobs.
The Constitutional Court refused on Friday a bid by Khutsong residents who contested a government decision that their cross-border municipality fell under North West province.
Residents rather wanted to be part of Gauteng which is perceived to be the richer province with a better service delivery track record.
