Johannesburg - President Thabo Mbeki had done "very well for the economy", ANC treasurer Mathews Phosa said on Sunday.
"I think he has done very well for the economy. As our leader we respect him," said Phosa, after Mbeki was recalled by the party as president of the country by the ANC on Saturday.
However, Phosa said there had been "a bit of disconnect, a bit of instability in the party which concerns us".
He said the party would outline its plans on Monday.
"There is going to be stability. We will move on," he said on a live debate on SABC1.
The party still wanted him to play a role in the Zimbabwe mediation efforts and in Sudan.
The party would meet at 10:00 on Monday, and its president Jacob Zuma would be part of a briefing at the ANC headquarters in Johannesburg at noon.
It was also expected to announce details on who would be acting president.
