Johannesburg - R10m worth of perlemoen was seized from two Chinese nationals on Thursday, Gauteng police said.
Spokesperson Lorraine van Emmerik said a task team was set up to investigate the illegal trading of perlemoen in Mulbarton, Johannesburg.
"We received a tip-off about the abalone operation at a house and the premises were raided. Two Chinese nationals were arrested on the premises busy drying the abalone."
Police searched the premises and found already dried perlemoen, ready for transportation and perlemoen in the process of being dried," she said.
"Investigations are taking place as it is suspected that there is a syndicate currently operating in the area which is trading internally and locally," said Van Emmerick.
