Taxi reform deadline extended

Pretoria - The target dates for reforming the minibus taxi industry have been extended by four years, Transport Minister Dullah Omar announced on Monday.

This was done at the request of the SA National Taxi Council (Santaco), he told reporters in Pretoria.

Omar denied the move meant the taxi recapitalisation scheme was faltering.

"There is no opposition to the programme. It will be rolled out as planned," the minister said.
