Travelgate MPs to stand trial

Cape Town - National director of public prosecutions Vusi Pikoli has rejected a request by the African National Congress MPs in the Travelgate case to drop charges against them.
Their advocate, Seth Nthai, told a Cape Town magistrate in July that they would be approaching Pikoli "on the merits" after plea-bargain negotiations with the Scorpions reached a dead end.
However, a source close to the case said on Thursday the bid was unsuccessful.
The MPs and travel agents arrested in connection with the parliamentary travel-voucher scam are to make another appearance in Cape Town magistrate's court on Friday.
July 31 next year has been set as a provisional High Court trial date.
