New Orleans - Mostly it's all been bad news from New Orleans, with countless pictures of devastation, loss and anguish to illustrate the extent of the disaster.
For animal lovers, the many images of lost, abandoned or flood-battered pets seemed to aggravate the tragedy.
One particular picture of an oil-slickened dog, shown near clean-up crews recovering oil from a ruptured refinery tank and wandering a street in Chalmette, Louisianna, tugged at the heartstrings of people all over the United States.
Calls and e-mails poured into The Dallas Morning News from as far away as Connecticut and Massachusetts, the paper said, from people wanting to know the dog's fate or adopt the animal.
The Dallas Morning News photographers located the dog again on Wednesday, September 7 and an animal rescue organisation located the dog, finding an animal control specialist to rescue the dog.
Hopefully - a good ending to this sad story.
Meanwhile elsewhere, tearful dog owners were reunited with the pets they had to leave behind when Hurricane Katrina hit their homes or they were evacuated from flooded areas.
Hurricane Katrina refugee Valerie Bennett was visibly delighted to be see her dog, Lady, after they were reunited at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
She and her husband, Lorne, had to leave behind four of their pets when Lorne, a liver transplant patient, had to be evacuated in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, to a liver specialist for supervision.
