Baghdad - Police reported finding 67 corpses scattered throughout Baghdad on Monday, marking a particularly grim episode in the daily toll of Iraq's sectarian dirty war.
Fourty-four were found in the predominantly Sunni western half of the city, with the remainder turning up in the Shi'ite eastern side.
The discoveries came as huge numbers of dead were turning up north of the city where Shi'ite militias rampaged through the Sunni-populated countryside around the town of Balad, in revenge for earlier killings.
A weekend of conflict there left hospital sources counting about 80 bodies in their mortuary.
