Baghdad - Extremists killed 25 members of the Iraqi security forces, with several of the victims being beheaded, reports said on Thursday.
Police found the beheaded bodies of four men in the so- called "Triangle of Death" south of Baghdad.
A doctor in an Iskandariya hospital said the bodies were discovered in a river near al-Haswah.
The men had been dead for several days and were believed to be members of the Iraqi police or national guard.
Separately, authorities in Mosul told al-Arabiya television they had found 21 bodies, 19 of whom had been members of the Iraqi national guard.
In Baghdad, mortar rounds which went off near the Italian embassy killed three Iraqis and wounded five, reported al-Iraqia television.
The attack was aimed at a nearby Iraqi national guard base and not the Italian embassy, said the television report.
