US soldier killed in blast

Baghdad - A US soldier died Friday in the Iraqi capital when an improvised explosive device hit his vehicle, the US-led coalition said.
"A 22nd Signal Brigade soldier was killed today in eastern Baghdad at approximately 09:20 (06:20 GMT)," said a statement.
"The soldier was travelling in a three-vehicle convoy when an improvised explosive device detonated between the first and second vehicles.
"The name of the soldier has been withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
"The incident is under investigation."
Four Iraqis died and 15 were wounded in what appeared to be the same blast at about the same time on a crowded shopping street in New Baghdad, hospital staff reported.
Witnesses said they saw at least one American soldier covered in blood.
