Baghdad - Deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein on Wednesday told the court trying him he was "beaten" and "tortured" by the Americans.
"I have been hit by the Americans and tortured," he told the court.
"Yes, I've been beaten on every place of my body and the signs are all over my body," he added.
Saddam, on trial for mass murder, has been detained by United States forces since his capture two years ago.
"Our enemy is not the American people. Our enemy is the American government which is destroying Iraq," he also said.
Saddam also described insurgents as "brave men", adding that they were doing "good work".
