Paris - Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin called a meeting with three of his top ministers on Sunday to discuss the kidnapping of two French journalists in Iraq, a source close to him said.
The prime minister cancelled a trip to the south of France to hold the meeting at 09:45 with foreign minister Michel Barnier, interior minister Dominique de Villepin and communications minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, the source said.
The government was anxious to obtain the release of journalists Christian Chesnot of Radio France Internationale and Georges Malbrunot of Paris daily Le Figaro taken hostage by Islamic militants demanding the rescinding of a ban on the Islamic headscarf in French schools.
