Baghdad - Iraq arrested in May four men accused of involvement in the beheading of American businessman Nicholas Berg, a government spokesperson said on Monday.
It was not immediately clear why the government announced the news on Monday.
Maj. Gen. Hussein Ali Kamal, the undersecretary at the Interior Ministry, told Iraqi radio on Monday that four men had been arrested in the Berg case. The report was confirmed by Iraqi officials, who later clarified that the men had been arrested in May and the arrests were announced at the time.
Berg, 26, was kidnapped in April and his decapitated body was found in Baghdad in May. An al-Qaeda affiliated group claimed responsibility.
