Baquba - Eleven Iraqi troops were killed in a bomb attack and ensuing clashes in Adhaim, 100 kilometres north of Baghdad, on Saturday, a security source said.
A roadside bomb exploded next to an army patrol which was then attacked by insurgents just north of the troubled city of Baquba, said the source.
Two soldiers and an insurgent were wounded in the ambush which also destroyed five army vehicles.
The insurgent was detained.
US forces cordoned off the area and were conducting house-to-house searches, the source said.
Baquba has been the site of a number of sectarian killings where on Thursday Sunni Islamist militants distributed leaflets calling for the beheading of all Shiites.
