London - Police say a number of bodies have been recovered from a train deep underground at central London's Russell Square station, but that the confirmed death toll remained at 49.
"The total number of bodies we have at the moment is 49," Andy Trotter, deputy chief constable of the London transport police, told a news conference.
"The original 49 we gave included those that were already in the mortuary and those that have been recovered from the trains awaiting transport to the mortuary," Trotter said.
"Some of those 49 were identified as being dead in the carriage at Russell Square and they now have been removed to the mortuary," he said.
Rescue workers faced the most daunting task on the Piccadilly Line near the Russell Square Underground station, which tourists use to visit the British Museum.
