Jerusalem - The Israeli navy seized a Palestinian fishing boat filled with a large quantity of explosives on Sunday near the Gaza Strip, said a military spokesperson.
Two men on board threw bags of explosives overboard when their boat was intercepted in waters near the Egyptian coastline that are off-limits to Palestinian fishermen, said the spokesperson.
The navy found eight bags containing "several hundred kilograms of TNT explosives" in the boat, as well as parts that could be used to make landmines, he added.
The two men on board were arrested while Israeli sailors tried to recover the explosives that had been thrown into the water.
Another Palestinian fishing boat carrying a half-ton of explosives was intercepted earlier this month in the same vicinity, said the spokesperson.
