Tel Aviv - Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon stormed out of a crunch meeting of his Likud party Sunday after the power to his microphone was cut just before he was to make a key address.
Public television said that someone outside the convention centre in Tel Aviv had deliberately shortcircuited the power system after a speech by former premier Benjamin Netanyahu who is trying to oust Sharon from the helm of the right-wing party.
Scores of party activists also walked out of the room in protest at Sharon's decision to pull troops and settlers out of the Gaza Strip, just before he was due to take to the stage.
Likud's central committee is to vote on Monday evening on whether a leadership primary should be held in November or April.
