Paris - The Dalai Lama says he is hoping for greater religious freedom in China and says he wants to see what course the country charts after the Olympic Games.
The Tibetan spiritual leader says he has always supported China's hosting of the Games. But he says the world will have to "wait and see" what happens afterward.
He also says he is "always hoping" for more religious freedom in China. And he says he believes Chinese authorities are afraid to be more transparent with the public in general, which he calls a "sign of weakness".
The Dalai Lama spoke on Wednesday at a news conference in Paris. He is in France for a 12-day visit devoted mostly to spiritual matters. Later on Wednesday he meets with French senators for a closed-door meeting.
