Durban - A pilot and his three passengers narrowly escaped death when their helicopter's engine failed and they crash-landed outside Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.
Captain Charmaine Struwig said the helicopter was flying from Richards Bay to Gauteng on Sunday when the incident took place.
"It experienced engine problems at 6500 ft."
The chopper crashed into a soccer field and was severely damaged.
"But the pilot and the passengers miraculously escaped uninjured," Struwig said.
It was not known what caused the engine failure.
