United Nations - The United States on Tuesday vetoed an Arab-backed draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council, which would have called on Israel to end its deadly military operation in the Gaza Strip.
Britain, Germany and Romania abstained from the vote, and the 11 other council members voted for it.
The resolution needed at least nine votes on the 15 member council, but also had to avoid a veto from the five permanent members - Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.
