Boston, Massachusetts - US Democrats late on Wednesday nominated Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts as their presidential candidate to face Republican President George W Bush in the November 2 election.
More than 4 300 delegates gave the nod to the 60-year-old Kerry in a roll call of state delegations on the penultimate day of their four-day national convention in his hometown.
The veteran lawmaker and Vietnam war hero had effectively wrapped up the nomination in March after a round of state contests. His vice-presidential choice, Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, will be nominated on Thursday.
