Kiev - Viktor Yushchenko was sworn in as the third president of post-Soviet Ukraine on Sunday, capping months of political turmoil that saw the strategic nation turn away from traditional Russian influence toward the West.
The 50-year-old hero of the "orange revolution" read aloud the oath of office with his right hand placed on the constitution and the Bible and was pronounced the nation's new president by the head of the constitutional court.
