Samarra - At least 23 people were killed and 42 wounded on Saturday, including the local chief of a special Iraqi security force, in three car bombs and clashes between rebels and Iraqi forces and United States troops in Samarra, north of Baghdad, said doctors and police.
"We have received so far 23 killed and 42 wounded," said Nawfal Mohammed at Samarra's general hospital.
He said the dead included Brigadier General Abdul Razak Mohammed al-Jarmani, the local chief of a police rapid reaction force.
Jarmani died in a double car bomb attack in front of the local administration building, according to members of his entourage
