Tel Aviv - Four militant Palestinians were killed early on Monday in an Israeli army air attack on the Jabalya refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, Israeli media reported.
The group of four extremists were hit in the attack as the Palestinians tried to plant a bomb, the reports said, quoting security forces.
According to Israel Radio, one of the dead was a leading figure of the radical-Islamic Hamas organisation.
In another attack on Monday morning two members of Hamas were injured but survived an Israeli missile attack in Gaza City.
On Sunday, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan called on Israel to halt its military incursions into the northern Gaza Strip and called on the Palestinian Authority to take action to halt the firing of rockets against Israeli targets.
In one of the most severe Israeli offensives in the Gaza Strip in years, more than 65 people have been killed and more than 250 injured, medical personnel and witnesses said. Five Israelis also have died since Tuesday.
