Cape Town - One of the great unresolved problems of the world was the situation in troubled Zimbabwe, but it was up to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as a community to take responsibility for it, says billionaire currency speculator George Soros.
Speaking in Cape Town on Thursday night, the benefactor of the Open Society Foundation in South Africa, said: "It is one of the great unresolved problems not just of Africa but of the world. What do you do with the likes of (Zimbabwe President Robert) Mugabe?"
"This is where our current world order is insufficient. We don't have a mechanism for dealing with it. Clearly the influence of the neighbouring countries is very great. Because of the colonial past the disapproval from Europe ... and also me ... doesn't carry much weight."
"So it is all the more the responsibility of SADC," he said.
