Libya under nuclear inspection

Vienna - The UN nuclear agency will begin inspections of suspected nuclear sites in Libya as early as next week, IAEA director Mohamed ElBaradei said on Monday.
ElBaradei announced that he would be traveling to Tripoli next week with a team of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"Inspections will follow, as early as next week," he said.
ElBaradei confirmed that Tripoli was ready to sign an agreement allowing UN inspectors to stage surprise inspections.
"Libyan officials confirmed that Libya will sign an additional protocol to the NPT," he said, referring to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which seeks to curb the development of nuclear weapons.
Libya declared on Friday it was renouncing its banned weapons programs in a bid to improve relations with the United States and Britain.
