Groblersdal - A 50-year-old mentally ill woman was found murdered, and possibly raped, outside her house in Mogaung village near Goblersdal, Mpumalanga on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Kgobeng Magakwe said Mathibela Moramaga was found dead in her yard by a neighbour after noticing a broken window at her house.
"On close inspection, she found the deceased outside her house already dead with only her panties on.
"These were left hanging on one leg. The neighbour then alerted the police," said Magakwe.
He said preliminary investigation have found that the woman had been asleep at her house on Saturday when one or more intruders broke into her house.
"The suspect(s) broke her window pane and entered through it.
The deceased seems to have been forced out through the same window," said Magakwe. He said the woman lived alone.
Magakwe said there was blood on the woman's private parts, hence they could not rule out the possibility of sexual assault.
He said they were waiting for a pathologist to examine the body to confirm this.
"The victim may have been strangled. The motive for the murder is still unknown and police are following some leads.
