Port-Au-Prince - At least four people were killed in clashes with police here on Saturday, a police spokesperson said.
The four - including ex-sergeant Ravix Remissainthe, the onetime self-proclaimed commander of Haiti's armed forces - were killed in Port-au-Prince's Delmas neighborhood after a confrontation with national police, according to police spokesperson Gessie Coicou.
Haitian national police in February had issued arrest warrants for former military members, including Remissainthe, for their alleged involvement in the killing of Haitian police officers.
Police and former military staff began clashing early in the afternoon on Saturday in Delmas, with gunfire and some large blasts rattling the district.
Ex-military staff have been clashing with police for months, demanding the re-establishment of the armed forces; the Haitian military was disbanded in 1994.
Remissainthe was suspected of involvement in the killing of four Haitian police officers.
