I win, says Bali bomber

2004-04-14 13:12

Bali, Indonesia - An Indonesian militant sentenced to death for his role in the deadly 2002 Bali bombings says he wants Australians and Americans to "feel the pain" and that his execution by firing squad will send him to paradise where he will have dozens of women.

"I want the Australian people and the USA people (to) feel the pain. I also I want to say to them: 'I win,' ' Imam Samudra said from his prison on the Indonesian resort island.

The October 12, 2002 attacks killed 202 people, including 88 Australians. The al-Qaeda-linked Southeast Asian terror group Jemaah Islamiyah has been blamed for the carnage.

Indonesian police, as well as some foreign relatives of the dead, have said that if Samudra is executed he'll be considered a martyr and a hero in the eyes of fellow radicals.

We kill to get peace

"We kill to get peace," Samudra said in the interview on Tuesday.

"Very, very happy, (to die) because it's the key to paradise. Everything will be very, very nice."

"If you are already married in the world (you get) 23 (women), but if you are still single you got 72 women in paradise," Samudra said.

Samudra also said there were many more militants willing to attack Australia and personally target Prime Minister John Howard, US President George W Bush, and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, in the name of Islam.

"More than billion Imam Samudras around the world who will attack Australia... who will kill John Howard, Bush... Tony Blair... ready with their souls, their bombs, their guns," he said.

Samudra is one of three militants sentenced to death over the blasts.

Twenty-nine others have been convicted and given sentences ranging from three years to life. At least two key suspects remain on the run.
