Bucharest - Eight British school students have been hospitalised in northeast Romania with H1N1, an embassy official said on Friday.
Embassy communications officer Raluca Bragarea said the group arrived in Romania on June 25 as part of an annual exchange programme to work with disabled children in the northeast city of Iasi. The teens, aged 16-18, are in a group of 19 students and three teachers from the private Sevenoaks School in Kent.
The eight were placed in isolation at the Iasi's Hospital for Infectious Diseases.
The British ambassador Robin Barnett and other embassy officials traveled to Iasi earlier this week to help with the case, Bragarea said.
She said British diplomats were liaising with the British school and Romanian public health authorities to decide whether to fly the students home or keep them in the hospital.
Romania has confirmed 36 cases of H1N1.
