Phalaborwa - Two traffic officers who allegedly took bribes from a Limpopo farmer have been arrested, police reported on Saturday.
According to Captain Moatshe Ngoepe, police spokes[erson for the Mopani area of Limpopo, the two officers aged 28 and 29, accused a Hoedspruit farmer of allowing his son, who did not have a valid licence, drive an unregistered tractor.
It is alleged the officers led the farmer to believe the charges would be dropped if he gave them R700 and a sheep.
It is further alleged that the pair loaned the farmer a cellphone to help expedite the exchange.
However, the farmer reported the matter to the police, and the officers who are attached to the Limpopo traffic department, were arrested on Friday.
On investigation police found the sheep had already been slaughtered. The officers will appear in the Hoedspruit magistrate's court on Monday on charges of corruption and theft.
