Cape Town - Eighteen people, including two children aged two and three, were ferried to Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Umtata after apparently eating contaminated goat meat.
Eastern Cape health spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said the sick were suffering from severe diarrhoea and stomach cramps, with some vomiting.
Kupelo said the goat was allegedly sick when it was slaughtered on Saturday at a function in Mancam village in the Mqanduli area.
"They only reported the matter today [Tuesday] after a number of people became very sick," said Kupelo.
