Bangkok - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) on Wednesday launched its latest advertisement for vegetarianism, featuring Filipina supermodel Isabel Roces wrapped in nothing but chilli peppers.
"Being healthy and kind is always in style," said Roces, who was recently named Fashion Model of the Year by MTV Philippines.
"So whether you want to slim down and get healthy or just clear your conscious, there's no better way than to go vegetarian."
Peta, an animal protection group which opened an Asia office in Hong Kong two months ago, uses provocative posters usually featuring semi-nude models to get its pro-vegetarian message across.
The group relies on donors to run the advertisements in publications or as billboards, said Jason Baker, a Peta spokesperson.
"This is the first time we've ever done anything this hot," said Baker. One past Peta ad featured Baywatch star Pamela Anderson wearing a bikini made out of iceberg lettuce.
"For this ad, which we hope to get sponsors for in Thailand or the Philippines, we wanted to use a Thai vegetable, and lemon grass just didn't work so we opted for chillies," said Baker.
Roces, a vegetarian who has posed for Peta ads before, volunteered her services as she was already in Thailand on another assignment. - Sapa-dpa
