Cox'S Bazar - Wild elephants have destroyed a watchtower and trampled two farmers to death in south eastern Bangladesh, said police and forestry officials on Saturday.
The victims were in a watchtower guarding farmland near Damdamia, 450km southeast of the capital Dhaka, when about 10 elephants strayed into the area from a forest on Friday night.
At least 15 people are killed by elephants in Bangladesh every year as forests shrink due to encroachment by the rising population.
One of the most densely populated nations, Bangladesh has forest cover of only 17.5%.
