Colombo - Twelve sailors were killed when a powerful landmine explosion tore through a navy bus in north-western Sri Lanka on Friday.
A Sri Lankan defence ministry official said Tamil Tiger rebels are suspected to be behind the blast.
The official said rescue workers are "in the process of evacuating the dead and the wounded. We don't have the precise casualty figure at the moment".
The landmine exploded at Pesalai, where three Sri Lankan sailors were killed in a battle with rebels on Thursday.
