Bogota - Colombian police on Wednesday confiscated two tonnes of explosives and arrested eight people on charges of belonging to the country's main leftist rebel group.
An officer that participated in the operation said police also stopped a truck that was going to be used in an attack somewhere in this city of more than seven million.
The eight suspects, arrested in the western Bogota area of La Serena, are believed to be members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the country's largest and best-armed guerrilla group.
The source said the explosives were hidden inside a house, and were found when a neighbour called authorities.
FARC rebels are blamed for a series of urban car bomb attacks, including a February 7 blast that killed 36 and destroyed an exclusive Bogota social club.
The FARC leadership denied responsibility in the February attack.
