Shannon's stepfather arrested

London - Police investigating the kidnapping of schoolgirl Shannon Matthews said on Wednesday they had arrested a 22-year-old man, identified in media reports as her stepfather Craig Meehan.
West Yorkshire Police said they had arrested the man on
suspicion of possessing indecent images of children after
examining a number of computers.
Meehan has lived with Shannon's 32-year-old mother Karen for
around five years, media reports said.
Nine-year-old Shannon was found hidden in the base of a bed
at a house a mile from her family home in Dewsbury, West
Yorkshire last month, 24 days after she went missing.
Police have charged Meehan's uncle, 39-year-old Michael
Donovan, with Shannon's abduction and imprisonment.
Shannon has not returned home since her rescue, and remains
in the care of local social services.
Her disappearance in February prompted one of the biggest
police inquiries in the area since the Yorkshire Ripper
investigation of the 1970s.
