Jerusalem - Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has begun to breathe "spontaneously" in a first sign of activity in his brain since his massive stroke, a hospital spokesperson said on Monday as doctors try to awaken him from a coma.
"We have started to reduce the amount of anaesthesia. In the first stage, Mr Sharon has begun to breathe spontaneously although he is still connected to the ventilator," Shlomo Mor Yosef, the director of Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem, told reporters.
"This is the first sign of some sort of activity in his brain," he added. - Sapa-AFP
