Brown's speech boosts Labour

London - Following the party conference speech by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Britain's Labour Party has recovered its position slightly in an opinion poll published Saturday in the Guardian daily.
Labour polled 32%, up three percentage points, nine points behind the opposition Conservatives, who dropped by three points to 41%.
One month ago, Labour was 15 points behind the Conservatives, led by David Cameron.
The ICM polling company surveyed 1 012 people on September 24 and 25 for the Guardian opinion poll.
Following months of criticism of the quality of his leadership. Brown had made an impassioned speech for unity to the party at its annual conference in the city of Manchester. That speech came ahead of the poll.
The Conservatives start their annual conference in the central city of Birmingham on Sunday.
Cameron is expected to rally party members to take over power from Labour in the 2010 election.
