Iraq: US troops may downsize

Washington - The United States ambassador to Iraq said on Wednesday that political progress and improving home-grown security forces there might allow the US to cut its military presence in 2006.
Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad said: "I do believe it's possible that we could adjust our forces, downsizing them in the course of next year.
"That's possible given the positive political development and the continuing growth in the credibility of the Iraqi forces."
