Hanoi - A Cambodian woman who died last week in southern Vietnam has tested positive for bird flu, becoming the first Cambodian national known to have died of the virus, a doctor said on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old woman was admitted to the southern Kien Giang provincial hospital on January 28 and died two days later of respiratory failure.
"The test results showed (Tuesday) that she was positive to the H5N1 virus," Dr Phan Anh Tu from Ho Chi Minh City's Pasteur Institute said.
The virus has claimed 13 lives in Vietnam since December 30 and 33 since the end of 2003.
