Durban - The doctor who assessed the mental state of a man who is accused of hacking his toddler niece to death and cooking some of her flesh near Harding last week, found he is fit to stand trial, the prosecution said on Thursday.
The accused, 27, who cannot be named as he has not yet pleaded, is facing one count of murder and three of attempted murder, after he allegedly attacked three young nephews after allegedly hacking his three-year-old niece with an axe.
"The doctor found he was in a right state of mind and is fit to stand trial," said prosecutor Sanele Mcanyana.
The man was remanded in custody pending further investigation. He will appear in court again on Thursday August 4.
